Oliver Steadman, a 27-year-old former Labour councillor, has been charged in connection with the Westminster “honeytrap” scandal.
Prosecutors confirmed he faces one count of blackmail and five counts of improper use of a public communications network.
The case centres on allegations that politicians were lured into compromising online exchanges and then threatened with exposure.
Steadman, who previously served as a local councillor, is expected to appear in court later this month.
The charges mark a significant development in the scandal, which has shaken Westminster and prompted calls for stronger safeguards around digital security and political accountability.
