Hamas Demands Release of Barghouti and Sa’adat, Netanyahu Rules It Out

A senior Palestinian official told Al-Hadath that Hamas is demanding the release of Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti, PFLP chief Ahmad Sa’adat, and six other prominent prisoners as part of a potential exchange deal with Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu swiftly rejected the demand, saying, “Marwan Barghouti and other terrorist leaders will not be released in any deal.”

Barghouti, often seen by Palestinians as a potential successor to Mahmoud Abbas, is serving multiple life sentences for orchestrating attacks during the Second Intifada that killed and injured dozens of Israelis.

Israeli officials insist he will remain behind bars.
