Russian General Killed by Car Bomb in Moscow

Russian Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the General Staff, has been killed in a car bombing in Moscow on Monday morning, officials say.

Investigators report that an explosive device placed under his vehicle detonated as he was leaving a parking area, and he died of his injuries at the scene.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case, and one line of inquiry includes possible involvement by Ukrainian intelligence, though Kyiv has not commented.

Sarvarov’s death marks another high profile military assassination amid the ongoing Russia Ukraine conflict and follows similar attacks on senior officers this year.
