Deadliest Rail Crash in Years Hits Southern Spain

Spain has been rocked by its deadliest rail disaster in more than a decade after two high speed trains collided in the south of the country.

At least 39 people were killed and dozens more injured, according to emergency services.

Both trains derailed on a straight section of track that had recently undergone renovation, raising urgent questions about signalling, speed control and safety checks.

Rescue teams worked through wreckage overnight as hospitals declared major incidents.

Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine how the collision occurred and whether infrastructure or human error was to blame.
