Iraq’s prime minister has ordered the foreign ministry to summon the U.S. chargé d’affaires in Baghdad over attacks on Iraqi military units.
The move follows deadly strikes in western Anbar that killed Iraqi soldiers and hit a military clinic and nearby engineering unit, according to Iraqi officials.
Baghdad has condemned the attacks as a serious violation of international law and says it will formally protest to Washington.
The decision marks a further escalation in tensions as Iraq faces pressure from both U.S. operations and wider regional fallout from the war with Iran.
