Iran shut the Strait of Hormuz again on Wednesday in response to Israel’s massive assault on Lebanon, threatening to unravel the ceasefire deal within hours of it taking effect.
The White House called the closure “completely unacceptable” and insisted it was false.
Only three vessels had transited the strait in the hours following the ceasefire announcement, MarineTraffic data showed.
Iran’s IRGC said the closure was a direct response to the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which it said violated the first clause of its 10-point ceasefire proposal.
Iran’s parliament speaker warned that “a bilateral ceasefire is unreasonable” given the ongoing strikes on Lebanon.
