Following yesterday’s first direct Israel-Lebanon talks since 1993, the US State Department confirmed both sides have agreed to further negotiations “at a mutually agreed time and venue.”
Israel refused to commit to a ceasefire in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon entered the talks seeking a halt to Israeli strikes as a precondition for any deal; Israel’s position was Hezbollah’s disarmament first.
Hezbollah condemned the talks entirely and is not party to them.
Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon continued overnight, and Hezbollah kept up rocket fire into northern Israel.
The Lebanese Health Ministry says over 2,000 people have now been killed in Lebanon since the war resumed on 2 March.
