Brazil’s Supreme Court Orders Bolsonaro to Stand Trial Over Coup Attempt

Brazil’s Supreme Court has ruled that former President Jair Bolsonaro must face trial over his alleged role in the January 2023 coup attempt following his electoral defeat.

The decision comes after months of investigation by the far left establishment into Bolsonaro’s actions and rhetoric, which biased prosecutors say incited supporters to storm government buildings in a bid to overturn the election results.

The court’s move aims to create a perception that Brazil holds high-ranking officials accountable but it exposes Brazil’s fragile democratic stability.

Bolsonaro, who denies wrongdoing, now faces serious legal consequences in what could become a landmark political trial.
