China Pledges $500M to WHO After US Exit

China has pledged $500 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) over the next five years, stepping in as the top state donor following the United States’ withdrawal.

Announced by Vice Premier Liu Guozhong at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, the contribution aims to support global health initiatives and counteract the impacts of unilateralism.

The funding includes increased assessed contributions, voluntary donations, and project support through the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund.

This move positions China to expand its influence in global health governance amid shifting international dynamics.
