Comey Lawyers Up As Trump Vows More Indictments

James Comey has hired the law firm Latham & Watkins to fight last week’s federal indictment over a seashell photo allegedly threatening Donald Trump’s life, the former FBI Director’s most aggressive legal posture yet.

Trump told reporters at the weekend that “more indictments are coming” against political opponents, while Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has refused to rule out further charges against Adam Schiff, John Brennan and Letitia James.

Legal scholars warn the Comey case faces serious First Amendment hurdles and may be the first such prosecution under the threat statute since 1969.

Allies say Comey wants the case to go to trial as a public test of Trump’s weaponisation of the Justice Department.

The two-count indictment carries up to 20 years in prison.
