EU Plan Could Bring Ukraine Into the Bloc by 2027

Draft peace proposals backed by Brussels would allow Ukraine to join the European Union as early as January 2027, according to officials involved in the talks.

Ukrainian and European negotiators have presented the plan to Washington as a counterweight to earlier U.S. ideas that Kyiv viewed as too favourable to Moscow.

The proposal ties any settlement to firm security guarantees for Ukraine and a fast-tracked EU accession timetable.

European officials say accelerated membership would lock Ukraine into the Western system and prevent Russia from regaining influence.

The plan is now being reviewed by the Biden administration as discussions continue.
