France plunged deeper into political turmoil today as Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu resigned less than 24 hours after forming his cabinet, triggering the collapse of the government.
This follows the ousting of his predecessor, François Bayrou, who lost a confidence vote over his proposed austerity budget.
Lecornu’s abrupt exit stems from friction among coalition partners and lack of support in parliament.
President Macron must now appoint yet another prime minister amid soaring instability, with the CAC-40 and euro already taking a hit on financial markets.
