Greta Thunberg has been arrested in London under the Terrorism Act while holding a sign reading “I support Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide.”
She was detained during a Prisoners for Palestine protest outside Aspen Insurance, which underwrites contracts for Israeli weapons maker Elbit Systems.
Metropolitan Police said officers acted after determining the demonstration violated specific public order and security legislation.
Thunberg’s arrest has provoked strong reactions online and from civil liberties groups, with critics saying the use of anti-terror laws against a peaceful protester is excessive.
Police have not yet released details on possible charges or when she will appear in court.
