Iran-aligned Iraqi militias launched fresh drone attacks on the US Baghdad Diplomatic Support Centre and Baghdad International Airport on 8 April, hours before the ceasefire announcement.
The US Embassy issued a Level 4 warning urging all American citizens to leave Iraq immediately via overland routes, warning that air travel within Iraq is no longer safe.
The State Department condemned the attacks as “outrageous terrorist acts” and demanded the Iraqi government dismantle the militias responsible.
Kuwait also reported severe damage to multiple oil facilities, power stations, and desalination plants in a separate drone strike by Iranian proxies on the same day.
