King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive in Washington today for a four-day state visit, just 48 hours after a gunman attempted to attack the White House Correspondents Dinner.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the trip will proceed as planned, with the King addressing a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, the first British monarch to do so since 1991.
The visit comes amid open friction between Trump and Sir Keir Starmer, who has criticised the war on Iran and refused to commit British forces to a US-led mission to forcibly reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The royal charm offensive will be tested.
