Oxford Union President Removed After Celebrating Charlie Kirk’s Murder

George Abaraonye has been removed as Oxford Union President after publicly celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk.

Abaraonye, elected earlier this year, triggered a no-confidence vote against himself after posting comments such as “Charlie Kirk got shot loool” and “Charlie Kirk just got shot. Let’s f*cking go” only minutes after the assassination.

Abaraonye had previously debated Kirk at Oxford and was widely viewed as the clear loser.

The outrage over his remarks pushed members to act.

On 21 October, Union members voted strongly for his removal, with 1,228 in favour and 501 against, clearing the required two-thirds threshold.

The Senior Disciplinary Committee confirmed the result yesterday, ruling that he was considered to have resigned on that date and barring him from office.

Authority has now passed to the Returning Officer as acting president-elect while a narrow route for further appeal still exists.
