Polish President Karol Nawrocki has signed authorization for NATO forces to be stationed in Poland under Operation “Eastern Sentry,” the National Security Bureau announced.
The mission, unveiled by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on September 12, is designed to reinforce the alliance’s eastern flank.
Troops from the UK, Germany, Denmark, and France will take part in the operation.
The deployment follows an incident on September 10 when Russian drones violated Polish airspace during strikes on Ukraine.
Officials say the move underscores NATO’s commitment to collective defence and deterrence against further Russian provocations near allied borders.
