Sen. Ted Cruz, along with several Republican colleagues, has introduced the Strengthening Entry Visa Enforcement and Restrictions Act of 2025 (SEVER Act).
The legislation seeks to prevent Iranian officials who are under U.S. sanctions, particularly those linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader, from entering the country to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
Cruz argued that such individuals pose a national security risk, pointing to Iran’s record of sponsoring terrorism and committing human rights abuses.
A companion bill has also been filed in the House as lawmakers push to tighten restrictions on Tehran’s leadership.
