Senator Banned After Burqa Stunt in Senate

Australian Senator Pauline Hanson has been suspended from the Senate for seven days after entering the chamber wearing a burqa.

Her act followed the rejection of her bill that sought to outlaw public wearing of the burqa.

Other senators condemned her action as a “racist stunt.”

The suspension marks one of the rare instances in which a senator has been briefly banned for conduct deemed inappropriate in Parliament.
