UK Halts Trade Deal Talks with Israel Over Gaza War

The UK government has suspended free trade negotiations with Israel, citing concerns over Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy condemned the humanitarian impact of Israel’s operations, describing them as “morally wrong” and “unjustifiable.”

He emphasised that the conduct of the war is damaging the bilateral relationship.

In addition to halting trade talks, the UK has summoned the Israeli ambassador and imposed sanctions on individuals and entities associated with extremist settlers in the Judea and Samaria.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed that the suffering in Gaza is “utterly intolerable” and reiterated calls for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian aid access.

The UK maintains its existing trade agreement with Israel but has paused discussions on any new accords, pending changes in Israel’s approach to the conflict.
