UK Hosts 35-Nation Hormuz Summit Today Without The US

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is chairing a virtual meeting of 35 countries today to plan the post-war reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, without US participation.

The conference brings together France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan, Australia, South Korea, the UAE and others who signed a declaration committing to restoring freedom of navigation.

Starmer warned Wednesday that reopening the strait “will not be easy” and would require both military planning and diplomatic pressure.

Military planners from the participating nations are expected to convene separately in coming weeks to map out mine-clearing and tanker escort operations.

The summit is a direct response to Trump telling allies to “just take” the strait themselves and signalling the US would walk away from the problem.
