German Chancellor Says a Ceasefire Must Be Agreed at the Alaska Summit

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire at the upcoming summit in Alaska.

Merz emphasized that any such summit should include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and must produce a clear agreement on halting hostilities.

He said the United States President deserves thanks for initiating this diplomatic effort and for closely coordinating with Germany and its European partners in recent days.

European leaders, he added, offer their continued support for Ukraine and stand ready to back Trump’s initiative toward peace.
