140+ illegal migrants reach Spain’s Almería coast in weekend arrivals

Spanish authorities reported that more than 140 migrants arrived on the shores of Almería over the weekend aboard 10 small boats.

The migrants, who were intercepted and assisted by rescue services, are believed to have departed from North Africa.

Spain’s southern coastline has seen a sharp rise in irregular arrivals in recent months, adding pressure on local facilities and national migration services.

Officials say those rescued will be provided with humanitarian aid and processed under immigration procedures, while police work to identify the organisers behind the crossings.
