Taiwan announces $18 billion plan to boost resilience and defences

Taiwan’s government has unveiled an $18 billion package aimed at strengthening the island’s resilience against both economic and security challenges.

The plan includes financial support for industries affected by U.S. tariffs as well as significant funding to bolster defence capabilities in the face of growing Chinese military pressure.

The cabinet said the initiative is designed to safeguard Taiwan’s economy while reinforcing its security posture amid heightened tensions in the region.

Officials emphasised that resilience measures will also address supply chain vulnerabilities, ensuring the island remains prepared for both external economic shocks and potential military threats.
