German Military Satellites Reportedly Tailed by Russian Surveillance Craft

Reports say two Russian surveillance satellites have been manoeuvring close to satellites used by Germany’s military, raising alarms in Berlin and among NATO partners.

The Olymp/Luch-class craft are known for approaching Western comms and intelligence assets to eavesdrop, interfere or degrade signals.

Germany’s defence chief warned the behaviour represents a growing and dangerous threat in orbit, where proximity alone can enable jamming, spying or denial of service against targeting and communications systems.

Officials say the incidents highlight how the shadow war with Russia has extended into space and underscore the need for stronger allied measures to protect critical satellite infrastructure.
