Lithuania has announced the closure of its border with Belarus until November 30, citing ongoing security and smuggling concerns.
The government said it will review the situation at the end of the month to decide whether to extend the restrictions.
The move follows earlier reports of helium balloons being used to smuggle cigarettes across the border, prompting Lithuanian authorities to impose tighter controls.
The decision adds to tensions between the two neighbours, as Vilnius continues to accuse Minsk of facilitating illegal crossings and illicit trade along the shared frontier.
Border security forces remain on high alert throughout the region.
