New Zealand has temporarily closed its embassy in Iran and evacuated all diplomatic staff due to the worsening security situation and violent crackdown on protesters.
Officials moved operations to Ankara, Turkey, and flew out personnel safely on commercial flights as conditions deteriorated inside Iran.
Foreign Minister Winston Peters said he was appalled by the regime’s response to demonstrations and condemned the brutal repression.
New Zealand is advising its citizens in Iran to leave immediately, warning that its ability to provide consular assistance there is now extremely limited.
