Trump on Iran: “They Wanted to Take Over the Middle East”

President Trump said Iran has been decisively weakened and accused its leaders of seeking regional domination.

Speaking as pressure mounted on Tehran to accept a U.S. proposal, Trump said Iranian leaders were “sick” and claimed they had wanted to take over the Middle East.

He argued that Iran is now talking because it knows it has suffered a serious defeat and can no longer recover militarily.

Reuters reported on March 26 that Trump said Tehran would not be engaging at all unless it recognised the scale of the disaster now facing it, even as Iranian officials continued to deny they were negotiating on Washington’s terms.
