Two 17-year-old Afghan asylum seekers, Jan Jahanzeb and Israr Niazal, have been sentenced for the “horrific” rape of a 15-year-old girl in Newbold Comyn park, Leamington Spa.
The pair, who arrived in the UK via small boats as unaccompanied minors earlier this year, abducted the intoxicated victim from friends in May 2025, dragging her to a secluded area where they forced oral sex on her.
The girl bravely recorded footage of the ordeal, screaming for help and predicting the attack, evidence that proved crucial.
A judge lifted anonymity restrictions, citing public interest amid concerns over asylum seeker crimes.
Jahanzeb received 10 years and eight months in youth detention; Niazal got nine years and 10 months.
One faces deportation, but a plea timing technicality may protect the other.
The judge condemned their betrayal of UK’s sanctuary.
