Bangladesh Says Foreign Arms Fuel Deadly Violence in Hill Region

Bangladesh’s Interior Minister announced that weapons from “outside the country” are intensifying clashes in the southeastern Chittagong Hill Tracts alongside the Indian border.

On Sunday, protests over an alleged rape of an Indigenous woman turned violent in Khagrachari district.

Security forces intervened, and the clashes left three people dead and dozens injured.

The government blamed “miscreants firing from the hilltops,” while demonstrators claimed troops opened fire.

Officials also accused a breakaway rebel faction, the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), of instigating violence.
