Denmark Calls Snap Election After U.S. Greenland Tensions

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has called a parliamentary election for March 24, 2026, months earlier than required, in the midst of rising tensions with the United States over its pressure and threats regarding Greenland.

The move comes as Frederiksen’s strong stance defending Danish sovereignty, especially over Greenland, has boosted her popularity ahead of the vote.

The election will determine who holds the 179 seats in the Folketing and shape Denmark’s direction on foreign policy and domestic issues.
