EU Eyes Training 3,000 Palestinian Police Officers from Gaza

The European Union is considering leading a programme to train some 3,000 police officers from the Gaza Strip who are on the Palestinian Authority payroll, as part of a broader plan to build a full 13,000-strong police force for Gaza.

The proposal, outlined in a briefing document from the EU’s diplomatic service, is set for discussion by EU foreign ministers on 20 November.

It forms a key component of the U.S.-backed 20-point plan for Gaza, which includes security reforms and international supervision.

While the initiative signals deeper EU engagement in Gaza’s security architecture, its implementation remains uncertain amid regional tensions and competing U.N. resolutions.
