Germany Issues Ultimatum to Russia: Ceasefire Today or Face New Sanctions

Germany has issued a stark ultimatum to Russia: implement a full ceasefire in Ukraine by the end of today or face new sanctions.

Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius announced that, in coordination with European partners, Germany is prepared to initiate sanctions if Moscow fails to comply.

The proposed sanctions would target Russia’s banking, central bank, and energy sectors.

This move aligns with a broader Western demand for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire, supported by the U.S., UK, France, and Poland.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected the ceasefire ultimatum but proposed direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul.

Western leaders, however, insist that a ceasefire must precede any negotiations.
