Germany urges citizens to leave Iran amid retaliation fears

Germany has advised its citizens to leave Iran immediately and avoid travel to the country.

The warning follows Berlin’s role, along with the UK and France, in triggering the snapback of UN sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear program.

The Foreign Ministry said that repeated threats from Iranian officials raise the risk of German nationals or interests being targeted.

It also warned that the German Embassy in Tehran can currently provide only limited consular support.

Earlier this week, Germany, Britain and France formally notified the UN of their decision to restore sanctions on Iran under the 2015 nuclear deal framework.
