The High Court of Justice has ruled that the UK government acted unlawfully in banning the pro Palestinian campaign group Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation.
Shabana Mahmood said the government will appeal the decision.
Despite the ruling, the ban will remain in place pending a further hearing scheduled for February 20.
The judgment sets up a significant legal battle over the limits of executive power and the definition of terrorism under UK law.
