Lithuania has confirmed that an Iraqi national will stand trial for smuggling Middle Eastern migrants into the country from Belarus.
Police say the suspect illegally transported at least 37 Iraqi nationals who attempted to cross the border by boat via the Neman River.
Authorities describe the operation as part of a wider trafficking network exploiting the Belarus route into the European Union.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about organised migrant smuggling along the EU’s eastern frontier as pressure continues at the borders.
