Iranian media have confirmed the death of IRGC Deputy Commander Gholamhossein Gheybparvar, while claiming it was due to complications from chemical injuries sustained during the Iran–Iraq War.
There is no indication his death was linked to this, despite speculation online.
This comes after the recent targeted assassinations across Iran since the ceasefire started.
Gheybparvar, a prominent figure in Iran’s security apparatus, led the Imam Ali Central Security Headquarters and previously commanded Basij paramilitary forces.
He was widely seen as a hardliner and loyalist to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
His death marks a major loss for the Revolutionary Guard as tensions in the region remain high.
