Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz has revealed that during the recent 12‑day conflict, Israel actively sought to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“If he had been in our sights, we would have taken him out,” Katz stated, adding that Khamenei went into hiding, broke communication with commanders, and avoided targeted strikes.
He clarified that no US approval was needed for such an operation.
The admission marks the first confirmation of a direct assassination plan.
Israel continues high‑intensity operations while a fragile US‑brokered ceasefire remains in effect.
