Labour Politician Found Not Guilty Of Inciting Violence

Suspended Labour councillor Ricky Jones has been found not guilty of encouraging violent disorder after telling an anti-racism rally in Walthamstow that far-right protesters’ “throats should be cut.”

Jones also made a throat-slitting gesture during the speech in June last year.

The court heard that Jones, who had been advised by police and his party not to attend the rally, claimed his comments were metaphorical and a response to seeing National Front propaganda, including razor blade–embedded stickers.

The jury accepted his explanation and acquitted him.

Jones remains suspended from the Labour Party while further disciplinary action is considered.
