Only remaining candidate for UK grooming-gang inquiry pulls out

Jim Gamble, a former senior police officer and child-protection expert, has withdrawn from consideration to chair the national inquiry into grooming gangs.

His exit follows the earlier withdrawal of Annie Hudson from the shortlist and the resignation of multiple survivor-panel members who criticised the inquiry process.

The Keir Starmer-led government now faces fresh delays in appointing a chair and restarting the stalled probe into institutional failures to protect children.
