Poilievre Wins Seat As He Sets to Challenge Carney Over Tariffs

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has returned to Parliament after winning a by-election in Alberta’s Battle River-Crowfoot, reclaiming a seat just months after losing his long-held Ottawa constituency.

The victory gives Poilievre a platform to confront Prime Minister Mark Carney over U.S. tariffs when the House resumes on 15 September.

Poilievre has accused Carney of repeatedly conceding to Washington, saying the Liberal leader has “failed” in defending Canadian interests.

Despite the setback for Conservatives, Carney’s minority government remains secure with support from smaller parties. Polls put Liberals at 44 percent, compared with 33 percent for Conservatives.
