Renk Plans U.S. Production to Circumvent Germany’s Arms Embargo on Israel

German defence contractor Renk is considering relocating part of its gearbox production to the United States in order to continue fulfilling orders for Israeli tanks, following Berlin’s decision to impose an export ban on military equipment that could be used in Gaza.

Renk’s CEO, Alexander Sagel, said the company will comply with German law but also expressed a responsibility to help Israel maintain its deterrence capabilities.

He described the U.S. relocation as a “Plan B” if the embargo is approved by Germany’s security council.

The move reflects mounting tension between political decisions and defence commitments.
