Russia Snubs Zelensky’s Call for Energy Truce

Russia has rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal for an “energy ceasefire” that would halt attacks on power grids and energy facilities.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the idea and said Moscow seeks a “long term peace” rather than what he described as a temporary and tactical pause.

Zelensky had offered a mutual halt to strikes on energy infrastructure in an effort to protect civilians and prevent a winter humanitarian crisis.

Russia’s refusal signals it will continue targeting Ukraine’s power network, leaving millions vulnerable as temperatures drop and further dimming hopes of de escalation before the end of the season.
