Russian drones monitoring US and NATO arms routes in Germany

Russian drones have been spotted spying on US and NATO supply routes in eastern Germany, according to a report by The New York Times.

Some of the drones are believed to be Iranian-made and possibly launched from ships in the Baltic Sea.

American and German intelligence services warn that the surveillance could be used by Moscow to plan future sabotage operations.

In response, Berlin is preparing to amend legislation to allow the military to shoot down drones near bases.

The move follows repeated sightings over Ramstein and Bavaria, where electronic jamming and counter-drone systems have failed to stop the flights.
