A Paris appeals court has approved the early release of former President Nicolas Sarkozy, placing him under judicial supervision while his appeal proceeds.
Sarkozy, 70, began serving a five-year sentence earlier this month after being convicted of criminal conspiracy for allegedly securing campaign funds from Libya in 2007.
Under the supervision order, he is banned from leaving France and prohibited from contacting co-defendants or key witnesses in the case.
While celebrated by his supporters, the decision has also reignited debate over legal accountability, political privilege, and the strength of France’s justice system.
