A senior member of Hamas’s political bureau, Ismail Barhoum, was killed in an Israeli airstrike while undergoing medical treatment at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, in late March 2025.
The hospital strike also claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy undergoing surgery at the facility.
According to Hamas, Barhoum’s death occurred inside the hospital, prompting condemnation from Palestinian authorities.
Israeli authorities confirmed targeting a “key terrorist” and said the strike relied on extensive intelligence gathering.
Footage and official statements indicate that precise munitions were used, though collateral impacts remain contested.
