At least 17 people have been killed in one of Colombia’s deadliest days in years, following a car bomb in Cali and a police helicopter ambush in Antioquia.
President Gustavo Petro blamed the violence on ex-FARC dissidents, a breakaway faction of the former guerrilla group that abandoned the peace deal and now funds its activities through the drug trade.
The attacks underscore the fragility of peace efforts in Colombia, where Petro campaigned on ending the nation’s “eternal war.”
Authorities have launched a major security response as investigations into the coordinated strikes continue.
