A 27-year-old identified as Shane Devon Tamura, former high school football standout, drove from Las Vegas to Manhattan and opened fire on July 28, 2025 at 345 Park Avenue, a building housing NFL headquarters, killing four people including off-duty officer Didarul Islam before fatally shooting himself.
Tamura left a detailed suicide note blaming the NFL and claiming he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma.
The note referenced Terry Long, a former NFL player diagnosed with CTE, and pleaded: “Study my brain … You can’t go against the NFL, they’ll squash you.”
The NFL confirmed that one employee was seriously injured and remains in hospital but stable.
Commissioner Goodell announced increased security measures.
