South Korea and US to Co-Develop Nuclear-Powered Submarines

South Korea will “move forward” with United States in building nuclear-powered submarines, said President Lee Jae Myung on Friday after the two countries finalised a security and trade agreement.

Under the deal, Washington has approved Seoul’s bid to construct these advanced vessels and will provide support for expanding South Korea’s authority over uranium enrichment and spent-fuel reprocessing.

Alongside the submarine cooperation, the agreement includes a major investment package and a reduction in US import duties on South Korean goods.

The partnership marks a significant step in defence and industrial integration between the allies amid regional security challenges.
