Britain’s Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has warned Israel against annexing parts of the West Bank following the UK’s formal recognition of a Palestinian state.
Cooper told the BBC she made clear to the Israeli government they “must not” use the recognition as a pretext for annexation.
She said the UK’s decision was driven by a desire to respect the security of both Israelis and Palestinians, protect peace and justice, and support regional stability.
Cooper also stated that the UK will decide later whether to upgrade its consulate in East Jerusalem to a full embassy.
